Power On Indicator

Some types of electronic equipment do  not provide any indication that they are  actually on when they are switched on.  This situation can occur when the back-light of a display is switched off. In addition, the otherwise mandatory mains  power  indicator  is  not  required  with  equipment  that  consumes  less  than  10 watts. As a result, you can easily forget  to switch off such equipment. If you want  to know whether equipment is still drawing power from the mains, or if you want  to have an indication that the equipment  is switched on without having to modify the equipment, this circuit provides a solution.

image

One way to detect AC power current and  generate a reasonably constant voltage  independent of the load is to connect a  string of diodes wired in reverse parallel in series with one of the AC supply  leads. Here we selected diodes rated  at 6 A that can handle a non-repetitive  peak current of 200 A. The peak current  rating is important in connection with  switch-on  currents.  An  advantage  of  the selected diodes is that their voltage  drop increases at high currents (to 1.2 V  at 6 A). This means that you can roughly  estimate the power consumption from  the brightness of the LED (at very low  power levels). The voltage across the diodes serves as  the supply voltage for the LED driver. To  increase the sensitivity of the circuit, a  cascade circuit (voltage doubler) consisting of C1, D7, D8 and C2 is used to double  the voltage from D1–D6. Another benefit  of this arrangement is that both halve- waves of the AC current are used. We use  Schottky diodes in the cascade circuit to  minimise the voltage losses.

Power On Indicator-Circuit-Diagram
Power On Indicator Circuit Diagram

The LED driver is designed to operate the LED  in blinking mode. This increases the amount  of current that can flow though the LED when  it is on, so the brightness is adequate even  with small loads. We chose a duty cycle of pproximately 5 seconds off and 0.5 second  on. If we assume a current of 2 mA for good  brightness with a low-current LED and we can  tolerate a 1-V drop in the supply voltage, the  smoothing capacitor (C2) must have a value of  1000 µF. We use an astable multivibrator built around two transistors to implement a  high-efficiency LED flasher. It is dimensioned to minimise the drive current of  the transistors. The average current consumption is approximately 0.5 mA with a  supply voltage of 3 V (2.7 mA when the  LED is on; 0.2 mA when it is off). C4 and  R4 determine the on time of the LED (0.5  to 0.6 s, depending on the supply volt-age). The LED off time is determined by  C3 and R3 and is slightly less than 5 seconds. The theoretical value is R × C × ln2,  but the actual value differs slightly due to  the low supply voltage and the selected  component values.

Diodes D1-D6 do not have to be special  high-voltage diodes; the reverse volt-age is only a couple of volts here due  the reverse-parallel arrangement. This  voltage drop is negligible compared to  the value of the mains voltage. The only  thing you have to pay attention to is the  maximum load. Diodes with a higher  current rating must be used above 1 kW.  In addition, the diodes may require cool-ing at such high power levels.  Measurements on D1–D6 indicate that  the voltage drop across each diode is  approximately 0.4 V at a current of 1 mA.  Our aim was to have the circuit give a  reasonable indication at current levels  of 1 mA and higher, and we succeeded  nicely. However, it is essential to use a  good low-current LED.

Caution: the entire circuit is at AC power potential. Never work on the circuit with the mains cable plugged in. The  best enclosure for the circuit is a small,  translucent box with the same colour as  the LED. Use reliable strain reliefs for the  mains cables entering and leaving the  box (connected to a junction box, for  example). The LED insulation does not  meet the requirements of any defined insulation class, so it must be fitted such that it  cannot be touched, which means it cannot  protrude from the enclosure.

High Power LEDs up to 15 Amperes Circuit Diagram

This High Power LEDs up to 15 Amperes Circuit Diagram employs a simple scheme that limits the current flow to the LED, you can easily modify the circuit, and can change the power just replacing the value of R2. You can use a DC source of any tensions between 9V to 15V.Para powers or other LEDs just use the approximate formula:

Current (I) = 0.8/R2 where I is the current specified by the LED manufacturer. Value of I this conductor is 10A. Use R2 = 0.8/Current formula (I) to determine R2.

New Automatic Load Sensing Power Switch

This circuit will automatically switch on several mains-powered "slave" loads when a "master" load is turned on. For example, it will switch on the amplifier and CD player in a stereo system when the receiver is turned on. It works by sensing the current draw of the "master" device through a low value high wattage resistor using a comparator. The output of that comparator then switches on the "slave" relay. The circuit can be built into a power bar, extension cord or power center to provide a convenient set of "smart" outlets that switch on when the master appliance is powered (turn on the computer monitor and the computer, printer and other peripherals come on as well).

USB Power Booster

Power shortage problems arise when too many USB devices connected to PC are working simultaneously. All USB devices, such as scanners, modems, thermal printers, mice, USB hubs, external storage devices and other digital devices obtain their power from PC. Since a PC can only supply limited power to USB devices, external power may have to be added to keep all these power hungry devices happy. This circuit is designed to add more power to a USB cable line. A sealed 12V 750 mA unregulated wall cube is cheap and safe. To convert 12 V to 5 V, two types of regulators, switching and linear are available with their own advantages and drawbacks.

USB Power Booster circuit diagramThe switching regulator is more suitable to this circuit because of high efficiency and compactness and now most digital circuits are immune to voltage ripple developed during switching. The simple switcher type LM2575-5 is chosen to provide a stable 5V output voltage. This switcher is so simple it just needs three components: an inductor, a capacitor and a high-speed or fast-recovery diode. Its principle is that internal power transistor switch on and off according to a feedback signal. This chopped or switched voltage is converted to DC with a small amount of ripple by D1, L1 and C2. The LM2575 has an ON/OFF pin that is switched on by pulling it to ground.

T1, R2, and R1 (pull-up resistor) pull the ON/OFF pin to ground when power signal from PC or +5 V is received. D2, a red LED with current resistor R3, serves to indicate ‘good’ power condition or stable 5V. C3 is a high-frequency decoupling capacitor. The author managed to cut a USB cable in half without actually cutting data wires. It is advisable to look at the USB cable pin assignment for safety.

USB Powered Audio Power Amplifier Circuit Diagram

This USB Powered Audio Power Amplifier Circuit Diagram of multimedia speakers for PCs has single-chip-based design, low-voltage power supply, compatibility with USB power, easy heat-sinking, low cost, high flexibility and wide temperature tolerance. At the heart of the circuit is IC TDA2822M. This IC is, in fact, mono-lithic type in 8-lead mini DIP package. It is intended for use as a dual audio power amplifier in battery-powered sound players. Specs of TDA2822M are low quiescent current, low crossover distortion, supply voltage down to 1.8 volts and minimum output power of around 450 mW/channel with 4-ohm loudspeaker at 5V DC supply input.

An ideal power amplifier can be simply defined as a circuit that can deliver audio power into external loads without generating significant signal distortion and without consuming excessive quiescent current. This circuit is powered by 5V DC supply available from the USB port of the PC. When power switch S1 is flipped to ‘on’ position, 5V power supply is extended to the circuit and power-indicator red LED1 lights up instantly. Resistor R1 is a current surge limiter and capacitors C1 and C4 act as buffers. Working of the circuit is simple. Audio signals from the PC audio socket/headphone socket are fed to the amplifier circuit through components R2 and C2 (left channel), and R3 and C3 (right channel).

Circuit diagram:
USB Powered Audio Power Amplifier Circuit Diagram
USB Powered Audio Power Amplifier Circuit Diagram

Potmeter VR1 works as the volume controller for left (L) channel and potmeter VR2 works for right (R) channel. Pin 7 of TDA2822M receives the left-channel sound signals and pin 6 receives the right-channel signals through VR1 and VR2, respectively. Ampl i f ied signals for driving the left and right loudspeakers are available at pins 1 and 3 of IC1, respectively. Components R5 and C8, and R6 and C10 form the traditional zobel network. Assemble the circuit on a medium-size, general-purpose PCB and enclose in a suitable cabinet. It is advisable to use a socket for IC TDA2822M. The external connections should be made using suitably screened wires for better result.

Simple UPS Power Supply

This circuit is a simple form of the commercial UPS, the circuit provides a constant regulated 5 Volt output and an unregulated 12 Volt supply. In the event of electrical supply line failure the battery takes over, with no spikes on the regulated supply.

Simple UPS Power Supply
This circuit can be adapted for other regulated and unregulated voltages by using different regulators and batteries. For a 15 Volt regulated supply use two 12 Volt batteries in series and a 7815 regulator. There is a lot of flexibility in this circuit.

TR1 has a primary matched to the local electrical supply which is 240 Volts in the UK. The secondary winding should be rated at least 12 Volts at 2 amp, but can be higher, for example 15 Volts. FS1 is a slow blow type and protects against short circuits on the output, or indeed a faulty cell in a rechargeable battery. LED 1 will light ONLY when the electricity supply is present, with a power failure the LED will go out and output voltage is maintained by the battery. The circuit below simulates a working circuit with mains power applied:

mains on

Between terminals VP1 and VP3 the nominal unregulated supply is available and a 5 Volt regulated supply between VP1 and VP2. Resistor R1 and D1 are the charging path for battery B1. D1 and D3 prevent LED1 being illuminated under power fail conditions. The battery is designed to be trickle charged, charging current defined as :-

(VP5 - 0.6 ) / R1
where VP5 is the unregulated DC power supply voltage.

D2 must be included in the circuit, without D2 the battery would charge from the full supply voltage without current limit, which would cause damage and overheating of some rechargeable batteries. An electrical power outage is simulated below:

power failure

Note that in all cases the 5 Volt regulated supply is maintained constantly, whilst the unregulated supply will vary a few volts.

Standby Capacity
The ability to maintain the regulated supply with no electrical supply depends on the load taken from the UPS and also the Ampere hour capacity of the battery. If you were using a 7A/h 12 Volt battery and load from the 5 Volt regulator was 0.5 Amp (and no load from the unregulated supply) then the regulated supply would be maintained for around 14 hours. Greater A/h capacity batteries would provide a longer standby time, and vice versa.

Simple 2 Watt Small Switching Power Supply Circuit Diagram

In this small switching power supply, a Schmitt trigger oscillator is used to drive a switching transistor that supplies current to a small inductor. Energy is stored in the inductor while the transistor is on, and released into the load circuit when the transistor switches off.

2 Watt Small Switching Power Supply Circuit Diagram

Simple 2 Watt Small Switching Power Supply Circuit Diagram

The output voltage is dependent on the load resistance and is limited by a zener diode that stops the oscillator when the voltage reaches about 14 volts. Higher or lower voltages can be obtained by adjusting the voltage divider that feeds the zener diode. The efficiency is about 80% using a high Q inductor.

Simple Automatic Switch For Audio Power Amplifier

Simple Automatic Switch For Audio Power Amplifier.Circuit of an automatic switch for audio power amplifier stage is presented here. The circuit uses stereo preamplifier output to detect the presence of audio to switch the audio power amplifier on only when audio is present. The circuit thus helps curtail power wastage. IC1 is used as an inverting adder. The input signals from left and right channels are combined to form a common signal for IC2, which is used as an open loop comparator. IC3 (NE556) is a dual timer. Its second section, i.e., IC3(b), is configured as monostable multivibrator. Output of IC3(b) is used to switch the power amplifier on or off through a Darlington pair formed by transistors T1 and T2. IC3(a) is used to trigger the monostable multivibrator whenever an input signal is sensed.
Circuit diagram:
Automatic Switch For Audio Power Amplifier-Circuit-Diagram
Automatic Switch For Audio Power Amplifier Circuit Diagram

Under ‘no signal’ condition, pin 3 of IC2 is negative with respect to its pin 2. Hence the output of IC2 is low and as a result output of IC3(a) is high. Since there is no trigger at pin 8 of IC3(b), the output of IC3(b) will be low and the amplifier will be off. When an input singal is applied to IC1, IC2 converts the inverted sum of the input signals into a rectangular waveform by comparing it with a constant voltage which can be controlled by varying potentiometer VR1. When the output of IC2 is high, output pin 5 of IC3 goes low, thus triggering the monostable multivibrator. As soon as the audio input to IC1 stops, pin 5 of IC3 goes high and pin 1 of IC3 discharges through capacitor C3, thus resetting the monostable multivibrator.

Hence, as long as input signals are applied, the amplifier remains ‘on.’ When the input signals are removed, i.e., when signal level is zero, the amplifier switches off after the mono flip-flop delay period determined by the values of resistor R8 and capacitor C3. If no input signals are sensed within this time, the amplifier turns off—else it remains on. Power supply for the circuit can be obtained from the power supply of the amplifier. Hence, the circuit can be permanently fitted in the amplifier box itself. The main switch of the amplifier should be always kept on. Resistors R1 and R2 are used to divide single voltage supply into two equal parts.

Capacitors C1 and C2 are used as regulators and also as an AC bypass for input signals. Diode D1 is used so that loading fluctuations in power amplifier do not affect circuit regulation. Transisitor T2 acts as a high voltage switch which may be replaced by any other high voltage switching transistor satisfying amplifier current requirements. Value of resistor R10 should be modified for large current requirement. The LED glows when the amplifier is on. The circuit is very useful and relieves one from putting the amplifier on and off every time one plays a cassette or radio etc.

Power Supply with High Voltage Isolation

Occasionally you come across some unusual  situations when setting up measurement  systems. The author once had to set up a system to register the vibrations and strain supposed to be  present in a contactor that operated at a voltage of 25 kVAC.
One of the biggest problems with this project turned out to be the power supply for  the measurement system. Since it required  a power of about 30 W it wasn’t possible to  use batteries since the system had to operate  for many hours at a time. A logical solution  would seem to be to use an isolating trans-former, but still.25 kVAC means a peak volt-age approaching 40 kV, and on top of that  you would have to include a safety margin. In  addition, everything that is connected to high  voltage lines should also be able to withstand  lighting strikes!
Circuit diagram :
Power Supply with High Voltage Isolation-Circuit Diagram
Power Supply with High Voltage Isolation Circuit Diagram
Consequently the isolation should be able to  cope with a test voltage of 150 kV, which is a  lot to ask of the isolating material.
After extensive research no supplier could be  found for a transformer rated at 50 W, 230 V  primary, 12 V secondary and an isolation of  25 kVAC. Because of this, a dynamic system  had to be used that unfortunately suffers a  bit from wear and tear. This system consists  of a 50 W 3-phase motor connected up via an  isolating drive-shaft to a 30 W generator (a  3-phase servo motor that was used as a generator), which provides the power for the data  logger and associated electronics.
Because a 3-phase generator was used, the  voltage obtained after full-wave rectification (via D1 and D4 to D8) already looked good,  also because the revs of the generator was  fairly high. The secondary supply can there-fore remain fairly simple. The main supply of 9 VDC is stabilised by IC3, an LM317T. From  there it is fed to a few small DC/DC modules  (IC1, IC4, IC5), which supply voltages of +5 V,  +30 V and -9 V, which are required by the other parts of the circuit. IC2 (LM566, a volt-age controlled oscillator) makes LED D2 flash  when the supply voltage is present.pply-with-high-voltage.html

100W OCL Power Amplifier Circuit MJ15003,MJ15004

Creation
-Check the assembly of all equipment to correct the circuit, without the output transistors, Using a voltmeter measure the voltage at the speaker. By also does not have a speaker. At the end of this process was completed and ready to operate immediately.
-Put the power supply to the circuit, then to measure the voltage is 0V or not higher than 0.25V, if not in this means that the circuit failure, need to check first.
-The later, on output transistors, and then use an ammeter to measure the current is supplied with short input circuit. Measuring that positive or negative wire. Then, adjust VR1 until reading about the current 20-40 mA.
- For transistor Q4, when the device successfully. Should be installed on the cooling pad. Which installation of the output transistor. To help control the the bias current output relative to the temperature change of the output transistor.
- The power supply circuit is got by power of transformer T1, which provides voltage to the coil in the secondary coil is 27-0-27 volt, 5 amp.
- The Diodes Bridge rectifier should be not lower than 5 Amp 100V, The filter capacitor C7, C8 we used a 1,000uF 50V, the voltage at the capacitor afer through the filter will can about 38V.

700W Power Amplifier with 2SC5200 2SA1943

700W Amplifier Adjust the amplifier power 700W looks calm, but we requirement not put out of your mind to the adjustment happening forcing transistors, the whole relating to-engagement of frequency offset. It is compulsory to change the current insurance rule which serves to guard the final transistors. Their tendency to happen allowable to keep the transistors in the SOAR characteristics. primary it was needed to evaluate all the necessary resistors and subsequently measured to verify the accuracy of the calculations, it is managed with satisfactory results. Peripheral changes required in support of it to be there able to consistently amplifier to supply power. - First you need to restore the 2k2 resistors stylish string with the LEDs on Zenerovými resistors with upper wattage. be enough 1/2W resistors, power loss next to 80V +-based 1W. - therefore was traded 1k2 resistor in the pointer resistor by the side of 620 ohms.

Which is the initial reap has doubled, so at this point is the overall gain amplifier 40 and the limit excitation is sufficient to 1V rms. - Předbudiči transistors were replaced by stronger MJE15032/33 since KF467/470 are permitted satellite dish current 20mA - by the side of the exciter output stages are used the same transistors for example the output stage. - add up to of terminals of transistors has been increased to eight pairs - It had to occur to compensate designed for the excitation level by calculation a capacitor 10pF to 47pF + 22K appendage. This led to a slight "gradual" amplifiers, but this did not affect the ensuing parameters. This power is tuned correctly in support of this type of terminal transistors 2SA1943/2SC5200.

With with the purpose of it is a least assessment next to which the amplifier operates stably exclusive of pass by the side of the rising and falling edges of the genuine. - The ultimate adjustment, the adjustment terminal current protection transistor. The SOAR transistor characteristics shows with the intention of the most allowable radio dish current once the voltage of 1.5 A is ideal in favor of cooling, so its essentially not as much of. Therefore, the current protection is customary to 12A, single-arm. This impersonate protection SOAR transistor characteristics. curt-circuit current is regarding 6 A which is about 075A for every transistor. This is far beneath the SOAR characteristics. The mechanical design is relatively clear-cut, the transistors are placed on the two cooling profiles with a height of 66 mm, width 44mm, overall part 260mm. They are twisted contrary to each one other in this way, from the cooling tunnel. Coolers are attaching the nylon aid which allows the compilation of transistors exclusive of washers, and thus better conveying tepla.DPS amplifier next to the top of the tunnel and the transistors are soldered from the underside of PCB.
